Madrid will have a new hydrogen refueling station for heavy vehicles

The Calvera Industrial Group has announced that it has been awarded a contract for a new green hydrogen refueling station for heavy-duty vehicles to be located in the Community of Madrid. The contract, awarded by HVR Energy, an independent green hydrogen producer, will consist of a Hydrogen Refueling Station (HRS) for heavy-duty vehicles, including hydrogen storage of up to 500 bar pressure, compression system and dispensers.

The new hydrogen refueling station is part of a project whose objective is the deployment of mobility solutions with fuel cells for heavy vehicles in a large area of ​​the urban area of ​​Madrid. As reported by the company, the installation is expected to be operational during the last quarter of 2022.

José Luis Fernandez Bris, General Director of the company, has indicated: “This award continues to strengthen our position and commitment to play a key role in a rapidly growing area such as renewable hydrogen and clearly demonstrates Calvera’s ability to provide designs and competitive, high-quality products to this market”.

 

Hydrogen refueling stations throughout Spain

Yesterday we knew that Redexis and Air Liquide have signed a collaboration agreement to develop a project on the hydrogen mobility value chain in Spain, with the aim of reducing the carbon footprint of the transport sector. The two companies have agreed to work on the analysis of the deployment of a network of up to 100 refueling stations in Spain before 2030, mostly dedicated to heavy mobility.

The network of refueling stations would be strategically located in the main logistics centers, such as Madrid and Barcelona, ​​as well as in the main transport corridors that link the country with Europe, the Mediterranean and Atlantic corridors.

 

EMT hydrogen project

During last July, the Municipal Transport Company of Madrid (EMT) revealed its plans for the construction of a hydrogen refueling plant.

The hydrogen refueling station also contemplates the installation of a photovoltaic plant for the generation of electricity from renewable sources. Thus, the production of ‘green‘ hydrogen can be carried out in situ.

This point gives the project an integral scope by covering the entire hydrogen cycle: from its production to its use, through its treatment and storage.

The future refueling station will supply, in a first phase, ten ‘zero emission’ buses powered by hydrogen-fuelled fuel cells.
